Running a Pilates Studio in 2021- A Year in Review

2020 was a year like no other. With multiple lockdowns, our studio was closed for a total of 5 months last year. I am so happy to say we are finally back and stronger and safer than ever!

Living with the pandemic for the past year has changed our world in so many ways. We’ve been challenged in ways we could never have imagined. For me, this invited the opportunity and time for self-reflection. To really sit with what’s most important.

During our first lock down I was able to spend way more time with my son. This was wonderful and, truth be told, at times, really hard. Home schooling a kindergartner while trying to salvage your business doesn’t come without it’s own set of challenges.

The beauty of this time was TIME. Time to play. Move slowly. (Not something that’s typically in my wheelhouse). We did arts and crafts daily and played outside for hours on end with only our imaginations. It was a cherished time for us. I joined the masses of people in the sour dough baking craze and baked hundreds of loaves of bread. I learned how to paint rock mandalas. We created a community garden with our neighbors out in the park. We got to know people whom we never may have had the chance to otherwise meet. I pivoted my business into the online teaching world. Life in many ways became simpler.

And there were days that were hard. I read a quote that resonated with me recently in reference to this year. “We are not all in the same boat but we are all in the same storm.” This rings so true for me. I think it’s important to remember that not everyone’s challenges are the same right now but whatever each person is facing individually is very real for them and comparing these challenges doesn’t help anything. Let’s hold space for one another. Check in on the one’s you haven’t heard from in a while. Be kind to one another and have Love be at the center of all.

The biggest take away for me over this past year has been having a daily practice of gratitude to get me through the more challenging days. I’m grateful for so much. For my health, my family and always having food on the table and a roof over our heads to name a few. More importantly, for all of the amazing people and front line workers who are working night and day to help keep us safe and all of those who are doing their best to come up with solutions to an ever changing problem.

Last but certainly not least, I am so grateful for all of you. For supporting me and my business throughout this past year. Because of all of you, I am able to continue on the healing path I am meant to be on.

A deep bow.

Lori
